it's been a while... some questions
Oct 22nd, 2009 at 11:58am

Hi all,

hope you are all keeping the sunny side out..

I feel a bit sick to the stomach as i'm typing this... suppose its the fact i'm back on this forum... as helpful as it is and all the people on it that gave me advice and support.. I hoped i wouldn't return if i'm honest...

I'm one of the lucky ones i suppose and went 7 years without an episode... my last episode was Jan 08 lasting 30 days... i'm nearly 2 years free again...

I haven't had a attack yet and am trying to stay positive but I know that "feeling" I have at the moment and deep down fear the worst....

I've been naucious for about 2 weeks now on and off... have those two swollen glands on the lower back left of my head and get short "pangs of pain" in my head from time to time... It's not shadows... more phantom i think....

i've been waking at 5am 10 out of the last 14 nights... weird... but just like the CH's with out the headache... this of course is stressing me out ....

Anyway... is there anything i can do to prevent what seems like an episode on the way?

Should i start a course of anti-inflammatory medication ? Stop drinking coffee... alcohol etc... or should i just live it up and deal with it if it arrives...

I know there is no point in stressing about something thats not there yet but its hard to... as you CH people know...

I hate to sound negative and hope this passes but fear its immenent..

I noticed today that after a cup of coffee at 2pm I felt "crap" for the afternoon...

any advice... if you remember me...HI  Cheesy

Go see your Doctor and get prepared.

Preventatives and abortives.

This time try sticking around and offer other people advice and support.

Thanks for that, although you are kind of pointing out the obvious... any particular preventatives recommended?

regarding sticking around... I offered support and help previously while I was "under attack"... especially to people who had just had their first attack or didn't know what was going on... and for a while after the attacks... but my choice was to try to move on and forget about it... as i found it to be a traumatic month... I woke up randomly for months afterwards in cold sweats.. dreaming i was having an attack.. so it was my decision to try and put it out of my mind..

In my opinion I didn't feel it appropriate to hang around and offer advice when I was in the full of my health, especially with so many experts on the forum who knew a lot more than i did ...

thanks for the reply

If done properly, many times it doesn't start.

On the contrary, once your a ch.com sufferer you can never leave because you already know to much. Or is that the mafia?...HMMM......Any hoot.

Verapamil has always been my saving grace preventative This particular cyle 720 mg a day drastically reduced the frequency and severity of the attacks.

I had my first attack this morning, pretty much right on time.. Usually the first week of November for about three weeks..  Not much to add.. Just up, cant sleep and shot myself with half a dose of Imitrex injection..q tip method to save the drug for the next attack which will be in about 6 hours from now..

Prepaired..with strong coffee in thurmas, the drug, and ice pack that seems to help a bit,  over my left temple area.. if its severe and if the drug is taking its time to kick in, a hot shower helps a little.. not much else to do..  I got a small bottle of o2 for back up..
I do the usual, look online for the food groups that might trigger it, try to keep a diary of what I eat and a diary of the time of attacks and the serverity of each attack to see if there is a patturn,, and there is..

In my world, the O2 comes first. Everything else is a secondary treatment.

Best of luck to you on this round.

What Don was saying is this, there are many of us who would love to have a chance to go away and forget the beast for a while, but we can't.  I fully understand why you wanted to get away from it while you could, but there are others who stick around when not in cycle to help encourage and support those of us who need it.  They are some pretty wonderful people.

That also has an upside for them, in that when the cycle starts ramping up again and getting ready to rock and roll they don't have to come around for a crash course on what to do.  They've been here and kept up with what is happening and are prepared.

This is not an attack or criticism at all.  Please don't take it as one.

Personally, I use Kudzu as a preventative.  I get it online from Swanson Health Products  Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register .  I get better control than I did with Verap and Lithium without the side effects.  I use O2 at 25 lpm as an abortive.

Jerry
BTW, I remember you, and welcome back.
