Has anyone here tried marijuana to see if it helps? I read that in California they prescribe marijuana for cluster headaches.

Pot is not good for CH.  It is a vasodilator.

I tried it a couple of times during a cluster cycle in April of 2002, while I was fishing, I was a long ways away from town, had no rx's with me, and it sounded like a good idea. The only thing it helped was the throwing up cause I was in so much pain.  I don't recommend it for Cluster Headaches.

I, as the majority here, use oxygen at a high flow rate to abort a Clusterheadache. It is legal, reasonably priced and NO side effects.

Marijuana has been discussed on here many times, and nothing positive for treating CH's.
You will probably have a lot of responses on this subject.

The way that deal works, they will probably prescribe it for a hangnail....lol...

Seriously though, there have been multiple year periods during my history of CH during which I used pot extensively and periods that I used none at all for multiple years and I didn't see any difference in the CH at all...

I'll be honest, I moderately smoke pot out of cycle, but during cycle, it's like a detox for ganja and alcohol.  If you smoke pot or cigs during cycle, you're only pulling the trigger.  Don't smoke anything during cycle, period!!!!!!

As Brew said, that's awful funny.

Where pot has vasodilatory properties, nicotine is a vasoconstrictor.

Smoke pot during a ch and you may as well give the beast a sharp stick to stab you in the eye with.

I can't stand to be around cig smoke or any other strong scents during a ch.  After a ch, I will light up a cig to celebrate surviving another round with the beast.

I don't know how anybody could smoke at all during cycle.  When I smoked cigs some 5 years ago, it was gauranteed that after that cig, a cluster was following.
I got smart and quit and as I have said a million times on other threads, the intensity, duration, frequency and cycle time as a whole was reduced.  When I smoked it was awful.  I'm not sure how anybody could smoke during a hit.  Makes me wonder, Mmmm....

I grew up in a home where everyone smoked.  My parents and my older siblings.   I started smoking as a teen and young adult untill I moved into my own home.  I've seen no difference in my CH since quitting.

I started ch's in 1992, I started smoking in 1996, I stopped smoking during my cycle of 2005.  For some reason, the slightest hint of smoke or booze or anything was a trigger, also this was the first cycle I learned that I might have CH. I managed to be done smoking and drinking for 3 months after cycle.  (I don't like to use the word quit - quitting is for quitters).  Unfortunately, I picked both back up again.
I didn't notice a difference.

Well, everybody is different, right?  If I'm around by-stander smoke, CH will trigger.  Kind of like after having a glass of wine or a beer.

One thing is for sure.  Quitting cigs certainly didn't cure it Wink

I smoke fairly regularly.  but that doesn't mean it helps clusters at all. actually, during a hit, there's no way I could imagine smoking.

sometimes after a hit I will, for releif of living through the ordeal or to help nap afterwards (or for fun)

I'm glad that quitting helped some with your HA's, Chad! Smiley  I wish it would have cured it for you.
