Do you have to have a prescription for oxygen?
Jan 23rd, 2010 at 4:36pm

My insurance has run out and I have nothing at all to combat the demon with.

But I do have a couple of o2 bottles left over from when I did have insurance. They are empty, but my fiancee's father in law works at a welding supply place that sells gas of all kinds, including medical o2.

All I need is the little dookickey that goes onto the top of the bottle that tube that goes into your nose goes onto, and if I had him fill these bottles up with medical o2, I'd be golden.

That's my only shot. Otherwise I just suffer when they hit.

No, you'd be golden if you had a non-rebreather mask, not nasal canulas. That's like trying to put out a campfire by pissing on it.

Sure, have your FIL fill them for you (by the way, medical grade and welder's are the same stuff), but go to the ch.com store link at the left of the screen and order an O2ptimask. Now. Otherwise you're just horsing around.

Brew already explained the mask stuff, and the "little doohickey" on the top is called a regulator.  You want one that goes up to at least 15lpm.

Definately check out the link on the left!

The nose tubes (nasal canula) are considered worthless for CH. We need and use NON-REBREATHER mask's with a bag on them.

For CH we need 100% O2 and can only get this through a NON-REBREATHER. There is a rebreather mask without the mask and this is also NOT what we need. WE need a NON-REBREATHER.

Good Luck, Don

I had no idea about the mask. I used to just stick the tubes up my nose, clamp my mouth shut and then pinch my nose shut so as not get in any "dirty air". lol.

Edited to add: Wait a minute. You said your fiancee's father in law. Isn't that your father?

Although using the tubes as you are is better than having them in your nose, due to the size of the tube(s) it is impossible to get a full breath of 100% O2, without letting in outside air or waiting to take a complete breath.

The reason for the bag is it stores enough O2 for us to get full breaths. Especially needed for hyperventalating the O2.

Good Luck, Don

As of 5 yrs ago, maybe laws have changed, you need a prescription for o2.

However as mentioned from others on this thread, there are other ways of obtaining o2.  From my personal experience, it is not easy to obtain a tank of o2 with regulator without a prescription.

There. Fixed it.

O contraire, mon frere. Welding supply houses all over the US are ready, willing, and able to sell you a big ol' tank. Just tell 'em you're either learning how to weld (you already have a tank of acetelyne) or you're transporting live fish.

E-bay has regulators, and this site has the ultimate in masks.
