Any good doctors in or around WI?
Feb 11th, 2010 at 9:42pm

Hey everyone!  Looking for a headache specialist or even a good neuro near central WI.  Anybody know one?  My husband has had clusters for 10 or so years now.  Been through many docs;  need a new one again.

I live in Madison.  Marshfield is a ways away from here.  If you are interested in a great Madison ha specialist see Dr Bajkonia at the UW HA/Pain clinic.  Ivy Driezen is a great neruo with Physicans Plus.  Dr. Haloyda is a great neuro with Dean Health Systems. However, I hope you are able to find a good knowlegeable neuro closer to home.

Pam Gedney is the HA specialist at the Neuro Dept. of Rice Clinic in Stevens Point.

I saw her 6 years ago when I was finally correctly DX, and she knows her stuff, and is open minded as well.

LOCATING HEADACHE SPECIALIST

1. Search the OUCH site (button on left) for a list of recommended M.D.s.

2. Yellow Pages phone book: look for "Headache Clinics" in the M.D. section and look under "neurologist" where some docs will list speciality areas of practice.

3.  Call your hospital/medical center. They often have an office to assist in finding a physician. You may have to ask for the social worker/patient advocate.

4. Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register; On-line screen to find a physician.

5. Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register Look for "Physician Finder" search box.  Call 1-800-643-5552; they will send a list of M.D.s for your state.I suggest using this source for several reasons: first, we have read several messages from people who, even seeing neurologists, are unhappy with the quality of care and ATTITUDES they have encountered; second, the clinical director of the Jefferson (Philadelphia) Headache Clinic said, in late 1999, that upwards of 40%+ of U.S. doctors have poor training in treating headache and/or hold attitudes about headache ("hysterical female disorder") which block them from sympathetic and effective work with the patient; third, it's necessary to find a doctor who has experience, skill, and a set of attitudes which give hope of success. This is the best method I know of to find such a physician.

6. Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register NEW certification program for "Headache Medicine" by the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties, an independent, non-profit, professional medical organization.
Since this is a new program, the initial listing is limited and so it should be checked each time you have an interest in locating a headache doctor.

Heather,

Please don't just flash and leave.  There is way too much good stuff to be learned here to do that.

There is a section here dedicated to supporters like you, and all of us sufferers know...great supporters are like GOLD!

Also, get your hubby to come here and talk to others of us who also have to deal with this demon.  There is nothing like talking to, and even more so, meeting up with, others who really "get it".

I'm planning a Wisconsin Clusterhead Meet and Greet this summer.  Please peek at the Meetings and Gatherings section of the board for details.

Come back and keep us posted on your hubby's progress. Let us continue to help you both.

I don't plan on going anywhere.  You all have been so helpful already.  I would love to know more about your meet and greet.  I am new to the whole message board thing so you may have to guide me around.  As far as my husband chatting online we'll see.  He's not much of a typer.  Thanks again!

My husband says to anyone who has a PS3 & modernwarfare2, hop online and he'll talk with you there through the bluetooth.  Typing is just not for him.  He goes by hosemonster83.

I see my general practioner to get treatment for my CH's, but I have also seen a neurologist.  My GP is Dr. William H. Benn at Aspirus in Stevens Point and my neuro was Dr. Michelle Klasinski, also in Stevens Point.

Let me know if you'd like their numbers.

We have a call into Klasinksi Clinic.  Hopefully we can get in soon.  All the big clinics in Madison will take weeks.  Thanks for responding.

Most any specialist anywhere is going to take weeks, if not months, to get into if you're not an existing patient.

That's great Heather.  If it helps at all, you can let them know that Melissa Warden Filtz referred you.

If I remember correctly, I got into see her within a week or 2 when my GP referred me.

Melissa,

Good news, we were able to get in within 2 weeks.  Hopefully we can contain the power of the beast until then.  Thanks for the help!
