can cluster cause schizophrenia or hallucinations?
Sep 14th, 2010 at 12:57am

I have said this before that I don't understand all of the ups and downs and twists and turns of this cluster stuff. out of the blue after I took my night meds on Fri. I was thrown into a total hallucination. I didn't know where I was, who I was, who my family was, I had no idea where I was...you get the picture. I go to the pharmacy on sat to see if I had screwed up a dose or something. nope. all good. well, it happened again last night and I was already having them this morning. I've read about the "Alice in Wonderland" thing and it doesn't really fit. To say that I'm scared would be an understatement. really folks...ANYTHING WILL HELP ME RIGHT NOW.

First things first - no, CH does not cause schizophrenia or hallucinations.

However, your meds may be another matter in terms of your symptoms.

Just to be clear, schizophrenia is a disease while hallucinations are symptoms.  You may well be having hallucinations although the cause of the hallucinations are unknown.

You need to call your doc as soon as possible and I would recommend not taking any of the meds that you are concerned about if at all possible prior to talking to your doc.

What med have you been taking?  With something like verapamil, it would be a very very uncommon issue.  However, something like imitrex has been known to cause this issue on rare occassions...

Listen, and understand. That terminator is out there. It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear... 'The Terminator' AKA CH

This really does need to be as soon as possible since for quite a few types of medication stopping taking them suddenly can cause additional problems whilst at the same time if a medication is causing problems then it may require you to stop taking it or possibly take something else.

This type of question really does need a doctor to answer it as the answer they will give you will depend on the different medications you are taking plus your personal medical history. This is not something anyone can do online.

here's a couple of things to start off with. I called my psychiatrist and let him know what was going on (I'm bi-polar also). made a walk in appt for mon morning. He looked over my meds, nodded his head and raised my bi polar med by 300 mili's. THAT"S ALL. I was pissed that I didn't feel he was taking me serious so I went to the ER. ran down my story again with him. pee test and some bloodowrk, everything's "fine". He also wasn't seeing this as life threatening and shoved me out the door. well, I atually stormed out but who''s counting at this time. here is a list of meds and how long I've been on them as close as I can,

Elavil 50 mil 1 x
Compazine mil as needed
promethazine 25 mil as needed
seroquel 900 x1
lithium 900 1x
esrtadoil 1mg xx1
verapaml er 360 x1

I have been on most of these meds for at least 1 month by now. nothing new enough to cause such a reaction I don't think. I've been blown off by my psych dosc that I've been going to for 10 years and by an er doc who thinks hallucinations are just something you have to deal with. I'm getting really pissed and I'm still scared to death about what will happen today. Again, ANYTHING WILL HELP ME RIGHT NOW.

If you were doing the clusterbusters.com thing, I'd say you need to back off on the dosage a little.

Depending on the relationship that you have with your pharmacist, go back to them and explain what happened.  I have found over the years, that sometimes your pharmacist is your best friend when it comes to taking multiple medications.

As to hallucinations, seroquel and elavil can cause hallucinations.  That being said, you really need to talk to your pdoc and make him understand what is going on.
