At my house this year, but my Mom's doing the bird. She likes doing it and I've done it once before- I'm good. (Though just for the record when I made it I stuffed it with oranges and fresh herbs and basted with orange juice. It was good, I swear)

I'll make the double layer pumpkin pie with a walnut and brown suger topping and sauted green beans and walnuts.

And of course, the required appetizer of raw oysters. That is non-negotiable.

I love the idea of a camping retreat, and we've done that on a small scale before, but not this year. Why must the holiday season always seem to be preceded by 2 cars on the fritz? Is it a freakin' rule? Sigh. Looks like I'm getting new struts for Christmas, and we'll see what the mechanic comes back with today to find out what Lucas is getting!

Since Thanksgiving was invented in Vegas we’ll probably do what all the Vegans do, go to IHOP for turkey and pancakes and then go to the traditional Wayne Newton picnic or an Elvis impersonator sing-a-long celebration.

Just kiding. I don't even like IHOP.

Just finalized our extravagant plans. My daughter Dana will be hosting this year-she and her hubby are vegan(NOT THE LAS VEGAS_TYPE< BOB!), but last year' jokes
about tofurkey left them generally mirthless.....we will have the usual, Turkey, cornbread stuffing, gravy, mashers, my grandmother's Emerald salad, rolls, blah, blah, blah...and cranberry somethin and pumpkin sumpin.....
I'm really stoked about black Friday.......that's is the day I religiously avoid retail anything, and make my shortbread extravaganza..fantails, petticoats and cappucino and chocolate dipped. Maybe I'll watch a good ole fashioned movie.....and we'll eat the leftover turkey Dana sends home with us!
THEN, the fun begins.........bring out the Xmas boxes, and I get to see my old friends from past years.. the ornaments on the tree, to remind me of past vacations, wonderful times with my kids.........
AND THE HOUSE EXPLODES WITH CHRISTMAS!!!!

Oh Cathi I know just what you mean! Several years ago I started buying an ornament when we went on trips. It is just a happy reminder of the fun times isn't it!

I also like to exchange ornaments with a couple girlfriends instead of buying gifts. They are nice memories too. And since the girls were babies I have bought each of them one every year. The past ones are still here, but it's fun to know that they will use the new ones in their own homes.

Sometimes I wonder how many people who claim to be vegans really know what it means. It's more than just not eating any animal products. It means not using anything even remotely related to animals: meat, poultry, seafood, eggs, dairy products, honey, fur, leather, wool, silk, gelatin, lanolin, rennet, whey, casein, beeswax, carmine, bone china, shellac, the list goes on and on.

Barry, and other Canadians...Black Friday is Madison Aveue laughing at us.  Stores open at 3,4 or 5 am and apparently have "before Christmas sales."    What they have.. is insanely marked up prices, reduced to not such a great deal prices.   In other words...if something cost the store 10.00  they marked it up to 150.00

On black Friday they sell it for 45.00 and everyone (who got up at the crack of dawn) thinks they got a bargain.  In exchange for that cough-cough BARGAIN...they had to sift thru clothes on the floor and a stampede of idiots who have no sense of dignity who are clawing there way through aisles of people trying to get that last something that their kids cannot live without.

By my reconing that's very good timing.  You'll be ravanous after the prep.  The prep is the worst part.  And the drugs aren't too bad.
