Doctor????

Has anyone tried a Pain Doctor instead of a Neurologist?  I really just want a doctor, any kind, that's going to reseach CH and not treat them like Migraines.

Ultimately what you want is a neurologist whose specialty is headaches.

It's merely anecdotal, but pain management specialists tend to over-prescribe narcotics, which will do Eric much more harm than good.

JMO. But I dont think you want a pain doctor that gives you pain killers. Pain meds are pretty much useless. Not proud of this but I will share it. Last cycle before I found this place I got hit hard one night and was desperate for relief. Four  750 vicodins in a three hour period, did not touch the pain. Why, I dont know but pain killers dont seem to touch CH. Focus on prevents and abortives and by all means keep focused on finding a headache specialist. I tried many things suggested here and after a lot of trial and error, I found what worked for me and none of it was ever suggested by any of my doctors.

Prayers for you and Eric.

What they said!  You will find more good info on here than you will find in a vast majority of Drs offices.  We just don't charge as much, and he gets to keep his clothes on. Cheesy

Much of Eric's treatment is going to be trial and error.  I'm sorry, but no treatments work the same for two clusterheads.  We each react differently.  Some will work for a large group of us and others will work for a large group of others, and then some will work for only a small portion.  Just to make it really interesting it will often change between cycles.  I'm not trying to discourage you, just to alert you to what you will be dealing with.  If you can find a headache specialist who knows CH or any Dr that is willing to learn and to work with you you will be doing very well.  Unfortunately, you often have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find a prince.

Let me add, I don't know where in the country you are from so it is hard for us to recommend anyone.

Also, in January we will be having a get together in St Louis over a weekend can be life changing.  Meeting another clusterhead, or several, is very liberating.  You don't feel so all alone and helpless, plus you get to discuss what has worked for us in more depth than we can get into on here.  Besides that, we have a great time!  Totally unstructured, crazy, and wonderful.  Check out the Meetings board.  St Louis is easy to get to from anywhere in the country.
