Nasal Burning
Dec 2nd, 2010 at 1:06pm

Hi All....new to site. After 8 years of remission I got hit again. I'm actually in my third month of cycle. This time was different. I have more headaches all day long but not as painful. Although, I have had about 6-8 BIG ONES. I did however start Prednisone 5 days after the monster first came out and just finished my third round of the med. Maybe it helped to calm the big beast but now I seem to get several during the day. Actually, I have some sort of pain all day long, either my forehead, jaw, eye, or top side of head. What's interesting is that I get a nasal/sinus pain 3 to 6 times a day.  It's the kind of burning you get just before you sneeze but magnify it 100 times and NO sneeze, lasing about 20 seconds. Has anyone else ever experienced this? I haven't read anywhere that this happens to anyone.

Hey Gidget,

I've not experienced the buring in the nose thing but the all day long headaches, yes, refer to these as shadows.  Have you tried caffeine or energy drinks (eg Red Bull with caffeine and taurine) can help to eliminate this.... I sometimes go for a long walk and that can help - not always tho'  Undecided

Now that you are off the Prednisone are you taking anything else?  Verapamil?  Do you have oxygen on hand?

Wishin you all the best,

Kate

Kate,

Thanks for responding. I have a script for Verapamil but have been hesitant to try it. I guess I should. I'm nearing the end of 3 months so I keep hoping today is the day I wake up free. I have an appointment at the Jefferson Headache Center in Philly but that's not until the end of Feb. I was in the ER Wed before Turkey Day and was given oxygen along with several other meds. Hadn't felt that good in a long time. As far as caffeine, I have a pot brewing all day. I think it helps.

Just so you know not to expect instant results - the verap can take a couple of weeks to build up in your system.  Hopefully after 3 months you will be coming to the end of your cycle soon, yes?  Gee, I hope so!!

Keep posting and let us know how you're getting on  Smiley

February is a looooong time away!  Hopefully you can gather a heap of information, maybe even keep a headache diary up until then so that you're well prepared for the next cycle.

That burning sensation in your nose/sinus region is something I get as a precursor to a hit. Many start with the feelings of pressure or ice pick stab, and these come for me, but not right away. My first indication is like a buzzing of angry bees at the bridge of my nose, and it escalates from there. Take it seriously and attack with full armament! Blessings. lance

Yes, I have had this.  Your description is pretty good too btw.  Wimsey1 makes a good point get ready for a hit when you get this feeling, could wind up being a shadow or a full blown 10'er, either way get ready.
