How's this for pain
Dec 2nd, 2010 at 6:44pm

I got a bad nosebleed at work, which led to a trip to the ER after not stopping for 45 minutes. They cortarized, went back to work, sneezed, bled another 45 minutes, back to ER, they couldn't stop it, and now I have a balloon in my nose, on the right side, of course, during the worst CH of my life, on the side of my CH, the week after my CH peaked. Oh, yeah, and I'm 800 miles from home on an assignment for work and my insurance stinks. Isn't life grand!!

Sorry to hear about your hard time of late. Things like this Make you appreciate the good days.

I would have said when life hands you lemons make lemonade but I think after all that blood loss an Orange juice or two would be better.

When I reach points like that, the only thing I can recommend is throwing your hands up and laughing your butt off, because if you don't you just might end up crying........  Feelin' for ya.

Thanks, all. I'll cry when I get home and am hugging my wife and kids. I'm afraid to cry now for fear that my nose may start bleeding again. I'll settle for some extra drugs and hopefully some sleep when this thing is ripped out of my nose Saturday morning.

CH according to Bejeeber:

Strictly relying on doctors for CH treatment is often a prescription that will keep you in a whole lot of PAIN. Doctors are WAY behind in many respects, and they are usually completely unaware of the benefits of high flow 100% O2.

There are lots of effective treatments documented at this site. Take matters into your own hands, learn as much as you can here and at clusterbusters.com, put it into practice, then tell this CH beast Jeebs said hello right before you bash him so hard with a swift uppercut knockout punch that his stupid horns go flinging right off.

NO one but all of US..can deeply feel what you are going through Mike.   It may not help to know that...or then again it might.   Wink

Don't blow your nose.  Or sneeze.   Or laugh too hard.  or...well you get the picture.  Sometimes we do need to laugh at the unfairness of all of this though.  We're all with you.  One of has an ice pack.  Another has some cotton.  Someone else has a shot of whiskey for you.  And I have some tea and empathy.

I'll share a wee dram or two of a single malt whisky with anyone here.

Although for anyone in cycle it might be best if I drink it for you. Wink

Last night the pain from the balloon was so bad, I deflated it and pulled it out. I flushed the nostril with a saline bottle, and put antibiotic ointment up there. I forgot to mention that my MRI from my cluster checkup last year showed I had polyps on my sinuses, which could be causing this issue (bleeding, not the headaches). either way, still full cycle, but no more bleeding for now. and up to 100mg of topiramate, so off to loopy-loopy land. 12/22 is doc visit, and I'll ask him whether I can work up to 200mg to see if we can knock the beast out sooner rather than later. I can't even describe the treatment I got in the hospital last week. they were more concerned with my CH than my bloody nose, and got pissed that I took off the cheap 5 cent O2 mask they gave me. REALLY?!?! You want me to wear this? I said. I had to tell them to put it up to 15liters and that the mask was letting in regular air. my bp was rising minute by minute as I was getting more and more agitated and the pain was settlling from my entire head to the usual spot in the right/center. but I digress, I'm home with my family and the horror has passed. Pain I can deal with. which leads to another quickie about how the docs thought it was funny that I didn't blink either time when they burned the inside of my nose with the chemical for cortarizing or when they jammed the balloon into my sinus. I asked them if they have clusters. when they said no, I said, if you ever do, you'll understand how nothing else in the world (except maybe childbirth for you ladies) will ever hurt as much ever again, and like that guy said in that infamous Sopranos episode "you think this is cold? I wash my B*lls in ice water".

Jonmach - I just love the attitude you're showing in this post. You're showing that you're still in charge and the beast isn't.

I'm just lucky in that a whisky won't  trigger a CH for me, although that suggests I may be chronic (although I've not had them for a year yet) and I only have a wee dram (a bottle lasts me about 6 months).

Oh boy...do we have some ER horror stories or what? I think we ought to have a campfire who can tell the biggest scariest CH horror story ever event. I'd put this one at in top 10...CH...nose bleed...balloon up my nose...more blood...cauterize...KIP 8...cheap mask...OMG.  Undecided

It does point out that education wise, we still have a ways to go with the medical community at large. Cry If they didn't hurt so damend much these stories would be freaking hysterical!!
