Carbonated drinks, oxygen, CHs and burping
Dec 4th, 2010 at 7:25pm

Yesterday afternoon I felt a CH arriving just as I was drinking a can of coke. I rapidly drank the rest of the can before jumping onto my oxygen.

However it took me a few minutes longer than normal to kill the CH and I wondered if there was any connection with the fact that I was burping a lot. Since the coke is carbonated with carbon dioxide, I wonder if that had any connection with the slower abort time?

Maybe I should have killed the CH with the oxygen and then drank the rest of the can?

Carbonation never bothers me. I drink a Red Bull while I am aborting with oxygen. For me, it both speeds the abort time, and seems to prevent the comebacker attack that I'm prone to.

Your mileage, of course, may vary! Wink

Yeah, there was a post about carbonation and absorbtion rates and interrelatedness. But it's possible the burping is causing you to breathe room air...I'm like Joe and slam a Monster then hit the O2...and I do hiccup, or cough, or burp...but I try to do it on the exhale if you know what I mean. Have you tried the smaller bottles, like 5 Hour? Less to drink down. God bless! lance

I'd posted before about the carbonation helping with absorbtion rates a few months back when someone had mentioned letting Red Bull go flat to make it easier to drink quickly. This was based on the rational that in drinking champagne (or similar drinks) the alcohol affects you a lot quicker.

I normally dive onto the oxygen without having a Red Bull or similar, abort the CH (6-8 min normally) and then if it was a high Kip CH I'll have a Red Bull. What was different that time was that I had the CH whilst halfway through a can of coke which I finished off quick thinking the caffeine might help.

I've not seen any of the smaller drinks like 5 hour that is often mentioned here (sometimes you can't get everything here in NZ).  Red Bull 250ml is the smallest I can find.
