My kids and doctors...
Nov 29th, 2011 at 8:39am

Guess I've dealt with doctors too long, but my kids are idiots...

Had to take both "little" ones to the pedi doc yesterday. They BOTH have strep (Caleb is really bad - has a rash all over and running a really high fever).

Well, after we get the "shots" in the kids and she's telling us what meds she's putting them on I pipe up and ask her to write scripts for the REST of us, so we'll have them on hand when WE get it (and we will - we share everything around here!).

My Kids (the big ones) were totally embarrased that I'd ask for that. (The doc wrote the scripts). My son chastised me for being so BOLD... huh?

Ok, it's a FACT - strep is VERY contagious and it stands to reason that if BOTH kids have it and we're all exposed that we WILL probably get it (we always do) and that when we do that we'll be going to the doctor and getting antibiotics to cure us up - right... So why not get prepared for when it happens and save the copay and a trip to the damn doctor? Made sense to me... and apparently to the doctor.

My point (esp to the newbies here) is that you MUST be your own ADVOCATE when going to the doctor or you'll never get anything done. You have to ASK if you want to RECEIVE.. the doctors can't read your minds.

Now would someone PLEASE explain this to my Children!!! Kiss

Never would've thought to do that, thanks for sharing your experience/tip.  Hope your family recovers quickly from the strep!

Nice going Barb. You're right about dealing with doctors too. Now that I'm 65, most of them seem like infants and I'm less impressed every day. I have to remind my neurologist about everything.

It's true I guess that all kids are embarrassed by their parents. It goes with the territory. Some day it will happen to them if lucky.
