I found the quote above to be interesting. I am chronic, and I'd love any abortive to last "a few days." Shoot, I'm hoping at best for a few hours when I trex up. also, I'm not aware that imitrex has been prescribed as the sole means of controlling CHs? Perhaps so, but I would think this is primarily effective only for occasional episodics. Just a few thoughts. Blessings. lance

Cheesy
Without the first sentence of the paragraph, what you quoted is out of context.
Quote:
RESULTS: All six patients had very fast relief from pain and accompanying symptoms from the drug but they developed an increase in attack frequency soon after using SQ sum. In all patients, the CH returned to its usual frequency within a few days after SQ sum was withdrawn or replaced with other drugs. Five patients were not taking any prophylactic treatment and SQ sum was the only drug prescribed to treat their headache
I take no prevents...they dont work and only serve to cause deleterious side effects, for me.
I would only use trex after I eat barbed wire...but the pain will dictate. Good thoughts Lance. I can only assume the sixth patient was on a prevent...and apparently not working for them either....lol Grin
all the best

A little intellectual honesty, please.

"Treatment with SQ sum may cause an increase in attack frequency of CH but data from literature are scant and controversial."

Giving therapeutic guidance carries the responsibility of full disclosure to the patient/reader. We have sufficient problems sorting through our choices already.

At risk of being taken to task,  what exactly is intellectual honesty?

Potter:

"Intellectual honesty
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedi

Intellectual honesty is an applied method of problem solving in academia, characterized by an unbiased, honest attitude, which can be demonstrated in a number of different ways:

One's personal beliefs do not interfere with the pursuit of truth;
Relevant facts and information are not purposefully omitted even when such things may contradict one's hypothesis;
Facts are presented in an unbiased manner, and not twisted to give misleading impressions or to support one view over another;
References are acknowledged where possible, and plagiarism is avoided."

Far from actual proof, all I can relate is my experience.  Daily hits which I would take zomig or Imitrex for...for at least a couple years.  Once I switched to ketamine as my main abort these ramped down greatly.  I just recently went 3 weeks with just shadows (heavy shadows, but shadows just the same)--which would not have seemed like a possibility just a year ago.  Either my hits got a lot better for some unknown reason, the Ketamine is having some sort of long term helpful effect, or I was getting rebounds from the triptans.  My guess is that it was rebounds from the triptans, but I am in no way sure of it.
