Headaches switching sides
Apr 21st, 2012 at 4:57pm

Does anyone have any info on headaches switching sides. My BF historically suffers from left side clusters. This round of headaches are on his right side. They seem to be milder and just early morning so far. Any info would help.
Thanks!
Debbie

I have only three abstracts dealing with this question and the conclusions are vague, lacking any focus.

Bottom line appears: yes, it happens but the meaning or impact is not clear.

But response: don't try and predict the future--it will just drive you nuts.

I had a few on the "wrong" side when I very first started with CH, however they have always been on the same side for the last 1.5 years. I also get my migraines on the same side as my CHs too.

I was a left-sider for 16 years. Then it swapped side, later it swapped back and then once more, even in the midst of a cycle.  For the last years it has stabilized on the right side. I remember the leftside attacks as more severe.  I have no idea why this happend, but  I got the bouts more often until I was actually chronic.

I have suffered with clusters for over 30 years and I'm experiencing the same thing. My last cluster ended in Feb this year. Recently I started noticing some pain around my right eye after I've had a drink. Didnt think much of it until it started happening every time and the pain got noticeably more like a cluster. Now the pain is starting to get more intense and comes on without drinking. It feels like another cluster coming but on the opposite side. This has never happened before and I usually get 10-14 month break between clusters. Is this unusual?   Undecided

Several have posted that in later years they started getting attacks on the opposite side. That being said, any time you have a radical change in symptoms, it warrants a quick check in with the doc. There's always the slim danger of clumping all of your symptoms under the "CH Banner" and overlooking something else that's starting up. Hoping it passes. Wink

Mostly a left-sider as well but the beast will change sides on me sometimes. It is rare but it can happen mid cycle too.

I've always had them on the left side; but then it swapped to the right side for a few years. Now, back to the left side. I've had a few odd "other side" ones throughout a cycle too.

It may be worth talking to his doctor about it; just to be safe, especially since it could be something unrelated to CH.
