Had a good break today
Mar 22nd, 2013 at 8:58pm

Well, I had a nice 8/9 last night at the usual 11:30PM to 1:30AM timeslot. It was not as bad as the previous night, but I woke up for work this morning at 5 and nothing, no headache, no pains. This is a good sign for me as the last two weeks it seems I've been getting them as I woke up or slightly before. I actually started setting my alarm earlier and earlier until I could catch them, but it did make for a long day.

So I was free and clear all day today, also unusual. I made it to about 6:30, which is later than my usual 4-5PM headache and I managed to catch it. 1 MaxaltRPD 10mg wafer and one of those 5 hour energy drink (extra-strength) shooters. It did get up to about an 8, but the duration was about 22 minutes, based on my live tweets of the whole event....lol. So in 26 days, I'm up to 54 headaches. Seems like an average of 2/day, but some days I was having 5 and 6 in a 24 hour period, and I also had a 50 hour break last week.

I'm pretty sure my cycle is falling apart, which is great news. I read up on that Vitamin supplement regimen, and I'm going to have to figure out where to get my pills from. Apparently Vitamin D3 only comes in 1000IU pills in Canada, or at least at the one store I popped into yesterday. Still have some shopping around to do, might check out online as well.

Anyway gotta run, girlfriend just got home, time to eat. Cheesy

Having another break....this is a really good sign for me. 37 hours without a headache now. I am going back to see my doctor today, as I am armed with more information than when I saw him last....thanks to this site, especially.

Interesting to note that I received a letter from him yesterday telling me my Vitamin D levels were "very low" and that he recommends I start taking 4000 IUs per day, year round.

I will be showing him the vitamin regimen suggested here on this site and see if he can't give me a prescription, as the laws pertaining to what you can buy off the shelf are pretty strict here in Canada. The biggest single pill dosage of Vitamin D3 you can buy without a prescription is 1000 IUs, but I do know with a prescription, you can get higher dosages, and strangely enough, it's cheaper.

I'm not sure if it's coincidence, or not, but I did check out Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register and I have tried a couple of small psilocibin "treatments", and I also started taking 3mg melatonin (recommended by someone I contacted locally that I found on this site) about an hour before bed. It could be one or the other has helped break the cycle, or the cycle was already on it's way out. I was told the psylocibin "treatments" may not work due to my continued usage of triptans (Maxalt RPD)

I also had a headache the other night set in, and instead of reaching for the triptans, I grabbed a 5 Hour Energy Drink (shooter), and pounded it back. Although it didn't get rid of the headache, my headache only got to about a 5/6 on the KIP scale, and I was able to "manage" it. It wasn't easy, but I wasn't out of control either.

Hoping beasty is on his way out for you. I've been on the D-3 regimen 3 years now...pain free for 3 years! I'm never getting off of it. Great to hear that more docs are becoming aware of the prevalance of D-3 deficiencies.  Wink

Made it 57 hours this time, had a nice wake up call around 2AM last night, maybe a 7/8 so it could have been worse. A good visit with my doctor yesterday. I showed him the vitamin regimen from this site, he agreed to try out the 10,000IU/day D3 for a month and see how it goes. He said most people are sitting around 80 for Vitamin D, and that I was around 25 (can't remember what units he was using). He also sold me some fish oil at his cost, $25/500ml. 5ml = 1570mg Omega-3 with 850 EPA and 550 DHA. I will be starting this today once I pick up my D3 pills.

We decided to start the verapmil, something I had refused to take before, but I have since reconsidered after joining this site and doing some reading.

I discussed the 5 Hour Energy Drinks with him, which he found interesting.

My MRI is scheduled for the end of May, considering I just saw on the news the night before that average wait time here in Calgary is 7 months, I was happy I only have to wait two. Based on what I've read, I really don't expect them to find anything, he also said once I've had the MRI, then he will see about referring me to the Headache Clinic at Foothills Hospital.

I mentioned the Melatonin, he wasn't convinced I was helping myself by taking it.

He said he was glad I found this site and was learning more about my condition.

It's good to finally have other people within reach that know what I'm going through, I appreciate all the feedback I get. Smiley

That is correct.  You must be entirely off all except 02 for approx. 5 days before 'busting'
