sansert (methysergide)

I don't see many references to this drug here. I did have some moderate success in the past with this, though not 100% effective. Last neurologist I saw didn't favor using it, then it was discontinued by the manufacturer early part of last decade and unavailable in the USA. Last time I bought some was online from Canada, and I've been into that 8 year old stash this spring.

Just wondering ... is it still available outside USA? Any of you using it?

Looks like it had some side affects:

Like anything else - the side affects vary and everyone is different - it all depends on what you are willing to accept.  No drug or treatment is risk free.

Also looks like it doesn't play nice with sumatriptan so I don't know that many would be willing to give up imitrex and only count their preventive (methysergide)

Again, all personal choice and what works for you.

It can be very effective. I used it for about three years (always with a one-month holiday every six months).

You can still get it by its generic name - methysergide maleate - but you will have to go to a compounding pharmacy for it, and stuff that has to be specially compounded ain't cheap.

After 60 Minutes on the compounding pharmacy industry, I'm staying clear of those when I can.

When I was with Cigna as my insurance company, they had their own in-house compounding pharmacy. Never had a lick of trouble.

I haven't taken the stuff in over 6 years, however, so I don't have a need for a compounding pharmacy anymore.

I began using Sansert when I was 12 years old as my primary med for my CH's.  Little pill that came in a foil pack that dissolved under my tongue.

I'm pretty sure you CAN still order it from Canada, but I was told that the dangers of taking Sansert and Imitrex(or other Triptans) too closely together are extremely dangerous & possibly fatal ("...A cardiac event could occur"). Fibrosis of the heart valves are also likely caused by taking this drug too often.

Last time I tried it was around 1995.
