Global warming
Dec 5th, 2013 at 10:16am

Where's Al Gore? I'd like to talk to him about all the white, fluffy global warming covering my yard. The temp outside is now 14, up from 12. I'm a born and bred desert rat and do not like cold.

Darwin 86F but higher here at Dundee Beach and with the humidity, I think we'll get rain this afternoon.  Must try and get the washing done!

Our summer rains have begun and look very promising. Had the bestest gutter party just last night and two are still missing.

We suspect a monsoonal romance.

We've got freezing rain going on here at the farm in East Texas and the temp has been dropping ever since I got up. Don't think I'm leaving my hill until the spring thaw...

I'm with Bob G.   I don't like the cold.. this doesn't usually hit till about Feb.

And WHY do they call it Global WARMING when it's just getting colder all the time?   Kiss

Smiley This is just what the Doctor ordered. Before, or after, that Angus roast beef.

When winter weather swirls in, nothing could be cozier than a toasty mug of mulled wine. Mulled wine, the vine’s version of a classic hot toddy, is a traditional holiday treat in many Old World countries. Dubbed "Glögg" in Nordic nations and "Glühwein" in Germany, mulled wines have been warming people for centuries. Typically made with red wine, the wine is sweetened, spiced and heated - offering a delightful alternative to traditional coffees, ciders and toddy’s at holiday gatherings or just on a cold winter's night.

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 25 minutes

Total Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients:
•One bottle (750 mL) of red wine (suggestions: Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Merlot)
•One peeled and sliced orange (keep peel to add zest to taste into cooking pot)
•1/4 cup of brandy
•8-10 cloves
•1/3 cup honey or sugar*
•3 cinnamon sticks
•1 tsp fresh or 2 tsp ground ginger (allspice can be substituted)
•Serves 4-6

Preparation:

To make the perfect cup of mulled wine, combine all ingredients in either a large pot or a slow cooker. Gently warm the ingredients on low to medium heat (avoid boiling), for 20-25 minutes. Stir occasionally to make sure that the honey or sugar has completely dissolved. When the wine is steaming and the ingredients have been well blended it is ready to serve. Ladle the mulled wine into mugs (leave seasonings behind) and enjoy! * The 1/3 cup of honey or sugar does make a sweeter-styled mulled wine, feel free to cut honey/sugar down to taste.

Cheers, Hoppy.

Hi Linda,
A little bit of that chill factor would'nt go astray here.
For eight months of the year our daily temps range
between 60F - 75F  Smiley. But, now it's
summer and the average temp is around 90F+  Roll Eyes
For the past few years we've been getting an extra
month of summer temps.
