CH and throwing up
Mar 19th, 2016 at 9:11pm

Hi Everyone - Newbie here to board but long time sufferer of CH. Mine comes every even year (2004,2006,2008 ...) at the same time of the year. Just in 2014 I finally was diagnosed with CH and got the O2 therapy which was very effective. Now it has reared its ugly head and I don't have good insurance so I am seeing how to procure an O2 prescription (live in California). For now, I am going to try D3, Melatonin and red bull therapy.

The attacks are brutal (primarily at night) and the one item I didn't see in any of the other posts that happens to me is throwing up. I have all the same symptoms (one sided excruciating pain, blocked nose on right, droopy eye lids, pacing back and forth) but I have a really big urge to throw up. Apologies if I am giving a bit too much detail but I force throw up and mostly it is fluid and phlegm and I sense an immediate relief to the pain. It doesn't go away but its' definitely got some pain reduction.

I am just curious. Do anyone else go through this or is my body just reacting to the intense pain by throwing up and it has nothing to do per se with CH. I am right now so paranoid about this and even the thought of going to sleep scares me since I know I will wake up with CH

when the pain would get really intense I would throw up and the pain intensity would drop.I have been on the D-3 regiment for a few years and I've been pain free thank god.

I got sick a few times while being hit but it always seemed to be related to medications I was taking at the time (specially when the neuro tried to kill me).

Certainly it made me feel a little better, but I suspect that was because I couldn't believe things could get any worse.

Same for me.  I didn't know if it was due to the pain or the cafergot I was taking but bafing would bring an almost immediate end to the attack.  Got to where I would do the finger down the throat thing just to get some relief.

BTW - you don't need a prescription to by O2 at a welding supply shop.

I throw up also if the pain is intense. I force like you do and it helps briefly. Does anybody else get intense ache pain on the occipital area at the back of the head and at the trapezius? I am 7 weeks in a cluster right now and it is the first thing I notice when I wake up in the morning.

You'll hear the back of the neck thing called the "cluster lump" around here.  Supposedly caused by an inflamed nerve ganglion near he base of the skull.  You'll often see clusterheads massaging that area when they are in season.

I try to massage that lump down too, It is kinda of instinctual. It sucks trying all these things and have nothing work. For example, 4 days ago I switched to a low fat diet (roasting vegetables) and have fish or chicken breast and am having intense attacked still. I ordered Omega Fish oil (3000) and vitamin D3 (10,000) to see how well that does. One of the worst parts is that the intensity this cycle is worse than I have ever had before, I was diagnosed 3 years ago and have been on oxygen for the last year. But aside from waking up in the middle of the night (or the fear of it) I am getting consistently getting an attack between 12:30am and 1:30pm, often times at work. It has put me in the situation where my work performance is complete garbage. Often times coworkers can here me throwing up (I always force it to try to ease the pain). I am still trying to maintain running every morning but it is getting difficult with me being depressed all the time and with my head, neck, and trapezius muscles being so tight and throbbing.

Anyways didn't mean to hijack the thread just wanted to brief you with my struggles!

Mfocht,

NEVER apologise for telling your story and certainly not here.

So, you have O2. Any other abortives?  What about preventatives? Are you working with a Headache Specialist?

If you are going to start the D3 Regimen (and you should) then read the thread "123 days pain free..." In the Medications & Treatments section.

If you have read this already then you will know that you should take all the cofactors recommended by Batch and not just the D3 and Omega3. You should also discuss the Regimen with your Doctor.

Also, get your blood checked for your 25OH(D) level to establish your starting point.

You're very welcome here so ask as many questions and give as much information about your experiences as you want.

There is always someone here.

Peter.

be strong.. in your life.. and in your meassures too..
i discovered many things two months ago.. some things caused me an attack in a few hours ( beer, alcohol ) ... other things.. caused me an attack in a few days ( fructose, polyols )...
my english is bad.. what i want to say that stay firm in your decissions.. i had to be on a special diet for at least 5 days to see results...only see results when i lost some weight ( i have lost 15 kgs in one single month avoiding yeast, sugars... folowing a FODMAP diet )
also vitamin d3 its really a miracle.. listen to batch and company.. they are great people.
Icepacks.. also work for me in attacks.. when i see the beast is coming.. i put a icepack in my neck 4 minutes.. then i move some the icepack below my ears 4 minutes.. then i move at the top.. and finish between my ear and my ear 4 minutes.. in 16 minutes.. pain is gone for me..
Also i use icepack.. if i have no attack 3 times a day in my back and in my neck.. and walk with my wife 40-60 minutes a day.. trying to "eat" the wonderfull SUN we have in spain.
I am on verapamil 8 years.. so my blood mineral analisis are high  and heart rythm  are so low.. i can not follow full d3 regime.. but i eat 5.000 ui a day and omega 3.. and its a miracle....
Visit a doctor to cure every single thing that its not cluster headache.. one never knows.. could be the cause of the CH ( apnea.. gut problems..etc etc )
My best wishes to you.. i hope you will go better.

I've never thrown Smiley only felt nauseous! When I was swallowing 28 Migral tabs (Ergots) a week.

I never noticed any lump on the back of my neck. Again, just goes to show we are all different.

Cheers Hoppy

I get the lump at the top of the neck and the base of skull (on my right side, where my attacks are). located right near the occipital. It is always really sensitive and sometimes brings me to tears.

I'm not sure about this, but it's just a thought! Maybe try  rubbing some Voltaren on the sensitive spot.

Hoppy.
