Prednisone should only be used as a stopgap when you first start taking verapamil, while you wait for the verapamil to become effective.  It's far too dangerous to take long term.

Have you tried sumatriptan auto injections, and the vitamin D3 regime that has helped so many of us.

Predosine is FANTASTIC for me as well, no headaches at all, I was up to 60 mg a day and I can tell you the side effects if you get them are AWFUL.  I gained about 20 lbs, felt like I was falling asleep all day.  Was so cranky, I would snap at anyone and if I ran low on them, I was like a drug dealer begging my doctor for me.  I share that to say be very careful!  I came off it and the headaches have come back but at least I am myself again.  I hope that does not happen to you.  Good luck!

Pred is tough, but it does work for most, to each their own, risk vs reward, my knees are now bad, coincidence?, I would rather inability to walk and be stuck in a wheelchair than CH's. Short term for sure, taper down, start very high, keep that preventative in check and have O2 ready. Pred at tapered down dosage/end usually results in vengeance attacks to make up for lost torture time. When in full blown attack mode, anything is better, right? Take care Wink

Prednisione is a great short term preventive for CHs, however there is a risk reward issue in that in the medium / long term is can cause joint damage (knees, hips, etc.).

There has been quite a bit of scientific research around this:

Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register

So the normal usage for short term CH prevention is for around 10 days whilst starting another preventive, like verapamil, that takes some time to take effect.

Prednisone is nice, but it can't be your long-term solution. Too many dangerous side effects if used too long.
