Questions About Vitamin D3 Dosing
Jun 8th, 2017 at 2:04pm

Hi all,
I haven't been on here since 2011 because I'd gotten pretty hopeless about my headaches. I'm back because I have a 7 month old and am struggling to take care of her with my attacks. I almost knocked myself out this morning and I can't have that while being responsible for her.

I'm reading the vitamin wiki link but am still a little confused as to how dosages work. I'm not entirely how much of what I should be taking and for how long. I'm hoping someone can explain this for me in layman's terms.

Some background information is I'm 27y, female, 120lbs, episodic(fortunately) and breastfeeding. We've just moved for the military and so I won't be able to see a neurologist for months. I was officially diagnosed, however, back in 2010. Something interesting, though not entirely relevant, is that I was in remission my entire pregnancy. I went through my normal cluster seasons (fall and spring) with a couple brief shadows and that was it.

Thank you all, I really hope this D3 therapy is my answer. Cry

Hello Tory,

Welcome back.

The loading doses are set out in the following link: go to section 2 and look at the 4 week load dosing strategy:

Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register

I have heard of a number of Clusterheads who have gone totally pain free during pregnNcy and, indeed, for months afterwards too.

Hope this helps. Come back with further questions.

Peter.

So it looks like you should follow either the 2 week or 4 week loading schedule. This means it's not a continuous regime then? How long should you go between loading schedules?

Thank you!

Torry,

The principle is to get your blood levels of D serum, known as 25(OH)D to a certain level that allows the anti-inflammatory properties of that serum to control the natural fluctuations in your inflammatory markers.

Thus, your blood vessels do not expand as frequently due to inflammation. The theory is that the expansion (dilation) of a particular artery main in your brain causes it to press in nerves and cause the pain you experience.

So, the aim is to raise your 25(OH)D to 80 ng/ml (or 200 nmol/L) and then keep it there permanently.

The recommendation is to get your blood tested to establish your 25(OH)D starting levels. Follow the 4 week loading dose programme and then get your blood tested again.

The results of your second test will tell you whether you continue with the loading dose, or reduce down to the maintenance dose.

Once you reach the target levels you should have achieved a pain free state.

Note the it is always advisable to work with your Doctor during all this.

Peter.

Hi Torry and welcome, the vitamin D regimen is a lifetime commitment, in other words you have to stay on it forever, and it doesn't always work when in a cycle, it didn't for me, but since then, back in the Spring of 2012 I've been CH free, it's also important to take all the other cofactors at the same time with your main meal of the day.

The vitamin D regimen update Jan 2017
Supplement
Dose
Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol)
10,000 IU/day
(Adjust as needed to keep serum 25(OH)D near 80 ng/mL)
Omega 3 Fish Oil
1000 to 2400 mg/day
(Minimum of EPA 360 mg/day, DHA 240 mg/day)
Calcium *
220 to 500 mg/day
Magnesium
400 - 800 mg/day (magnesium chloride, glycinate or oxide)
Vitamin K2 (MK-4 & MK-7)
MK-4 1000 mcg/day,
MK-7 200 mcg/day (MK-7 preferred due to half-life)
Vitamin A (Retinol) *
900 mcg (3,000 IU) for men,
700 mcg (2,333 IU) for women (Maximum Dose)
Vitamin B 50
3 month course,
after that, the 7 B vitamins in the Mature Multi will be sufficient
Zinc *
10 mg/day
Boron *
1 mg/day minimum, 3 mg/day optimum
* Included in the 1/day Kirkland Mature Multi in sufficient quantity

Thank you everyone! I won't be able to see a neurologist for quite some time but I'm hoping if I bring this information to my new PCP that I plan to get a referral from, she'd be willing to do the draws so I can get this process started.

Thank you!
