New Zealand - mass shooting in Christchurch
Mar 15th, 2019 at 12:29am

No doubt people will hear about this on the news around the world as there was a mass shooting today in Christchurch where someone shot at people inside one mosque, killing between 9 and 27 people and there are reports of shootings at another plus gunfire near the main hospital and a car bomb.

A lot of the detail is very unclear at the moment.

Whilst Christchurch is about 1,100km from Auckland (700 miles), one of my work colleagues was scheduled to be in the city and would have been there at the mosque, but his trip was delayed. He knows people who were in the first mosque with at least one of them shot in the arm.

There are reports that one person has been arrested.

There have been multiple reports that the shooter live streamed everything to the internet and posted some political manifesto.

I never thought anything like this would ever happen in New Zealand, but sadly it has done.

Now 30+ people feared to be dead.

4 people arrested and car bombs defused.

I’m very sorry to hear that Mike.

I often feel the same about Ireland.....it would never happen here....but I fear that is just wishful thinking.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Peter.

My thoughts are with you all Mike.  It's terrible news.  Thank God they've been caught.

It has been a dreadful slaughter. Brenton Tarrant seems indoctrinated in Europe and targeting NZ was a misplaced venture. While Muslims maybe be an issue for Europe they are not an issue here. Indians using dodgy student visas to, in effect, work here and Chinese absentee/overseas house buyers raising cost of housing out of kiwi first home buyer reach are much bigger problems here
