I've read articles stating that cluster headaches are related to our cicadian (sp?) sleep cycles. That it may be related to time changes, lack of quality sleep, etc. Melatonin would make sense from that stand point. I tried it once (only one night) and it didn't seem to help - I was getting attacks at night. I probably should have given it more time, like all the other meds. I believe my cycles start during a combination of allergy season and stress and perhaps sleep troubles. I went 3 years without any real cluster periods, what a bummer to have them return.
