Bob P has give an excellent response. Pain meds are generally the least effective response. Let me suggest ERGOMAR, a ergotamine tab you put under your tongue--at the very earliest sign of an attack. Quick response is the key! It's an old standby and one of the least expensive meds out there, about $3/tab. It's not 100% for me but works to reduce the duration of an attack and sometimes to completely abort one. Works faster than ergotamine in a swallowed tab form. It can also be used as a prophy if you don't use to excess.
