UH,,, I Think there is a misunderstanding here. I think that James in Texas was reffering to "C hemicals " used to treat CHs and not the use narcotics. How did this enter the posting? ALL processess in the brain involve a series of chemical reactions.
Most of us know that Narcotics are poorily effective for CH relief; say like 20-30 %. But the are rarely used as a first choice treatment. They ain't good enough except I sorta like the high LOL. But Narcotics involve CNS depressant, totally unrelated to the meds found to be effective. I have used Vicodin. I paint part time and my right eye droops and hurts, But vicodin makes my job less miserable due to a heat index of 112 and 94-100 degree weather. But for me, I take 360mgs of verapamil and inhale 02; the recommended fast pain reliever-02
Some anti depressants are used to treat CHs but there are totally unrelated drugs used as well, such as prednisone.
I take anti depressants ,unrealated but linked, to my CHs. I suppose by popular belief CHs can cause depression if chronic, but antis act totally different from narcotics. The SSRI's are seretonin reuptake inhibitors . Some of the vast varieties of treatment , often overwhelming since we all have our own bag of tricks that work for us but seems rediculous. With more awareness of CHs, new drugs and treatments are found. But I stick to the meds known as first chioce; treatments my doc uses on me and those found in the medical info on the left of our Page.It explains it all, including meds used to treat CHs. I am sure some of the treatments involve a weaning of off and may share some addictive properties and some of them can have bad side effects. But we strive to find what works for us ,individually and collectively. That is why I am here Wishing you a pain free evening, David Chalfant. No offense, and no condescendcion intended. I.ve been there to . Peace
