Six months ago my Doctor prescribed the beta blocker propranolol (Inderal) for a complaint unrelated to CH. And I was curious as to any possible benefits for my chronic CH. I knew beta blockers have helped some with migraine but at that time I had not yet discovered clusterheadaches dot com and was ignorant regarding information available regarding prescription drugs for CH. Any way, after six months of taking 40mg propranolol twice a day there is not a single jot or iota of improvement in the frequency or the intensity of the CH. No surprise to most of you! Oh, my dear wife has been taking Inderal for tachycardia for many years and she still suffers with migraine.

What I am going to do, now I am less ignorant thanks to you wonderful people, is make a list of possible treatments and armed with suitable printouts re-visit my tame doctor. I sacked my last one three years ago, he would not let me try Imigran (Imitrex), indeed he was down-right nasty in his refusal! I found a doctor through a friend who would allow me to try Imigran (Imitrex). It worked about three-quarters of uses, but the side-effects were horrendous and I had to stop using it. Since then I have used Naramig (Naratriptan) and this works about half the uses, but with much reduced side-effects. Problem for me is cost, a prescription for a pack of six tablets goes very quickly and I'd love to find a cheaper alternative (wish they'd make packs of 50)

Good wishes to you all

David Mc
