I wonder if it isn't the same type of feeling that people get who have been through any traumatic experience that very few people share, e.g. aiplane crash survivors, tornado survivors, cancer patients, etc. We share an experience that is completely indescribable to those who have not suffered as we have. As hard as our loved ones try, they cannot fully understand what we go through, and as hard as we try, we cannot adequately describe the experience. When we find someone who knows, we immediately have that feeling of empathy, that leads to a feeling of friendship.
