How Close Are We?

I have something to share with you all. Yesterday I received a package - a very large box from Illinois. When I opened it, it was FULL of homemade cookies and fudge from Phil C. with one of the most heartfelt and touching notes I've ever received.

Now this crusty old broad was sitting there bawling like a two year old while my office staff was eating MY cookies. (We DID have a talk about that when I finally dried up!) Have a new girl who just started and who hasn't seen me except in remission and doesn't know anything about CH, so she was asking who Phil C. was. I tried to explain that he was one of my Clusterkids. She wanted to know if we knew each other. I tried to explain that we e-mail, we've talked on the phone and yes we know each other, but no we've never met, but we're family. She walked off VERY confused.

How DO you explain the bond we clusterheads have formed? How can you love someone you've never even met? And when you do meet another clusterhead you've only talked to on the phone and on the board or by e-mail why is there an immediate bond? Guess there's just not a way to explain it - it just IS! Or as I used to tell my son when he was small, "Just because."

Anyhow, I just wanted to share that with you guys. Maybe I'll get the lump out of my throat one of these days. Not much gets to me, but this did. And the cookies and fudge are 'wonderful'. Phil did tell me that if I drank a diet cola before I ate them it would take away at least 500 calories, so they are non-fattening too! (Right and I'll bet he has some ocean front property in Arizona too!)

Hugs BD
