Not to bring him up again, but that reminded me of when my brother was having invasive surgery. Beforehand, the pain from his cancer was so bad that he asked for some morphine. But being a semi-long-hair with dread locks, he was also told that they wouldn't supply him with a "fix." So, I guess it's not always fear but ignorance and lack of concern as well.
