Dear Ted,
I'm so sorry to hear of your brother's suffering, and of the doctors' unwillingness to prescribe pain medication for him. That's simply unconscionable. I have a friend who is a nurse. She used to work in our local hospice program, and over and over again, she has told me how much her patients benefitted from appropriate pain medications. I feel so sorry to hear that your brother wasn't given that same opportunity for pain relief. That's just awful.
