Why are there people named Boyd and yet none named Girld? My theory is that, at some prior point in history, some males 'boyd' other people. Women, observing how horrific this was, refused to engage in 'girling'.Thus, some families became known as 'boyers' or 'boyds', but none became known as 'girlers' or 'girlds'.
Either this, or there is some other, totally different and possibly rational, explanation.
