You have a right to your contrarian view - however

there is an enormous amount of real good evidence that demonstrates the benefits of aerobic exercise - particularly the type that you disparage. It is the type of cardiovascular fitness that one only gets with a little effort - running, swimming, biking, etc. So I would only say that besides the fact that I know you are absolutely misguided in your view, more importantly it should also be pointed out that your view is distinctly and utterly a minority view.

I will now become a contrarian myself - the type of guy you describe as "fit" - outside a lot, ruddy complexion, bacon and eggs for breakfast, nice strong muscularity from repetitive labor, maybe carrying a few extra pounds around and one who never, ever does any aerobic activity is a heart attack waiting to happen.

I will put my argument in terms you might like better given the fact that you extol the virtues of "country living". The Native American Indian who was lean ( not overfed ) and ran around a lot as a means of transportation was a hell of a lot healthier than your woodsman.
