Nature invented pain for a reason

it's for self-preservation, without pain, we would be loosing fingers, arms, and legs and frying our hands with our french fries, occasionally mother nature gets a little nasty as the deformation in our heads is very minor and the pain is way out of proportion, but maybe there is a reason for this, but I can't for the life of me think of even a little one, wouldn't it be nice if that minor deformation caused pleasure?
