antihistamine helps me a lot -
usually use diphenhydramine - generic Benadryl, 1/2 the price;
convinced I have blocked whole clusters on occasion by starting to take maximum label dose (or a bit more) at the very first indication a cluster might be getting started

when in a cluster, I find it often help lessen the severity of attacks if I take enough at the very first twinge

usually take a large dose (4-5 25mg caps) just before bed - still wake up w/headache right on schedule, 90 minutes after falling asleep, but with the benadryl on board, I've got a headstart on fighting the attack

the liquid form (nonalcoholic formula) seems to work faster - if you slug about 1/2 of the little bottle, it's same as 3-4 caps)

both caps and liquid come in generic, over the counter, in supermarkets around here, real cheap
