There are chronic pain management clinics in some cities. At these clinics they can help find the right meds to prevent the pain sometimes instead of having to abort with demerol. Another thing I've learned about these clinics is that some try to treat other symptoms such as depression as well as trying to manage the pain.

From your account it seems that your wife may be quite depressed(who could blame her) The pain might be a way of life, but getting help to manage it and go on with life is essential. The despair doesn't have to be. The quality of life for you and your family may not be the same as it once was, but there can still be quality to it. On good days try to get outside and talk walks together. Enjoy some simple things as a family. Think of yourself as a tribe, or a team and let your wife know that you are all in this together. She's not alone. It sounds like you are a supportive and compassionate husband just by the fact that you are looking for help. You can look on the internet for a group called magnum. I hope that is spelled right. There they will have resources for migraines and centers that can help her.

Don't give up. Even after the darkest nights there is a sunrise.
