Paula, first of all I am so sorry for the amount of pain you have been suffering. I just went through a 9 myself tonight for about 2 hours after battling a 6-7 for the last three hours of my shift at work. I know how exhausting fighting this pain can be and when it subsides go ahead and cry, let yourself go. For me it's the way to release the last of the tension. I also say that the lowering of the body temp helps, my boyfriend will put me in a cool bath. He gets so worried that I'm going to totally overheat. But the other thing I've tried recently that is helping me somewhat is Capsacin creme. Now if you ask people they will give you a lot of different ideas on this one but here's what has worked for me. I take a small amount (about half the size of a pea) and place it on the septal wall (the inside part) of your nose, on whatever side your headache is, for me always the left side. Beware, this stuff burns! But, you can buy it over the counter (ask your pharmacist for specific brand names) and it supposedly works by sending so many messages to the brain that the brain can't hear the message to have a headache. I just started with it a week ago and it has managed to either keep my pain at the same level, or drop it a level. Now granted there are times like tonight when nothing works, but hell, it's worth a try. Good luck to you and please know that you always have a shoulder to cry on here.
