I have to agree with gary g about the use of antihistamines, but you may have something about the menthol. I really haven't thought about or used it much, but you awakened a memory of an attack I had a couple of weeks ago. See my response to gary below for a description.
A full-bore attack seems to respond to nothing, but menthol _may possibly_ help it before or shortly after the onset.
