Funny you should mention this. When I was about 14, I broke my neck in gymnastics. I never put it together with my clusters because they didn't kick in until my late twenties. But now I'm beginning to wonder if degeneration of the discs over time were what precipitated the clusters. I always feel them starting in my neck, like a twisted cord. And during an episode, it sounds like I have gravel in my neck, every turn of my head sounds like grinding gears.
Yesterday, after four weeks of pain and no sleep...my friend poured me in his car and took me to a massuese. She kneaded my neck for about an hour. I heard stuff popping and moving. She was moving things that felt like knots from my neck outwards to my shoulder. I felt pretty battered when she got done and didn't really feel better...but gradually throughout the day, I noticed my neck didn't feel as stiff and sore.
