You cannot go from 80 mg of prednisone per day to nothing all at once! Doing so may literally be fatal -- I am NOT joking.
You must taper off gradually... the longer you have been at 80 mg per day the longer the tapering-off period lasts.
Typically you will go from 80 mg to 60, 40, 20, 10, 0, or some pattern very similar to this. The number of days you stay at each dosage level will have to be decided by your neuro, but I have never heard of staying less than three days at each level.
