I processed the German headache research paper through a standard German-to-English computer translator and was surprised to find the phrase "rem ion eating phase" repeated many times. What is a rem ion and what causes them to be eaten?

Are these two groups talking about the same thing, "ions", which I take to mean electrical charges in air?
