Stephanie, My thoughts are with you and your husband. I am chronic....for 17 mos. and running. Yes, I occasionally use narcotics, including Percocet. Docs are reluctant to describe it for several reasons. It does require a special "triplicate" form ...it is quite "strong" and potentially addictive like ANY narcotic agent. Docs are "tracked" regarding the usage and frequency of these types of meds. Its not an answer, just a reality. There are many other drugs that are quite strong that do not require a triplicate and prove to be quite effective. Has your husband tried Stadol Nasal Spray? This might be a temporary solution for him. I know that there are times where I would try just about anything to end a 3 (yes, three) hour cluster.
Consulting a pain specialist is not a bad option, but have your docs considered all the abortives and prophylatic agents. Trust me....never give up hope. Get educated...educate your doc and keep the faith. Please feel free to e-mail me if I can help.
Take good care...irene
