I have been a natural speed reader from age 5. I didn't know it was anything special, I just did it. And I can assure you from my long experience that you don't miss stuff.
Funny thing is, the lousier the text, the faster I get through it. With a good story or a brilliant book I slow down, because it is such a delight to savour good writing, beautifully turned phrases, an intimate knowledge of language...
The tired eyes I get despite all this speed reading. Just before my first ever attack broke I thought I needed new reading glasses.
