Hi Rachel,
Pain killers are a waste of time with clusters, by the time they kick in the pain has usually subsided anyway and your now somewhat stupified. While there are merits to some of the drugs such as Imitrix, lithium, Prednisone and others, these could have some nasty side effects. My first recommendation would be properly administered oxygen. That has worked for me for over 15 years. Verapimil as a preventive is pretty safe, I'm on it for high blood pressure and one of the biggest side effects is low blood pressure (well doh). As far as getting better meds, it sound like the current doc is clueless about CH if he/she is prescribing pain killers. You need a referal to a neuro that has experience in treating CH. Best of luck and feel free to email anytime.

Kip
