husband with clusters

Hi, my husband is in a cluster period right now. He's been having them for about 3 years. He is always given oral painkillers and they don't work, so we suffer for about 3 months or so until they go away. How do we get the better meds and what are some things I can do to help him through these periods? Thanks!
