The way I have dealt with it at work is to end up suffering as embarassingly as I do at home. Usually I know when it's coming and will leave early enough to make it home while driving with one eye shut and the otehr mostly shut. When it comes on too quick for that I make a complete ass of myself from writhing in pain. Generally when that happens I try and find a hiding spot. Luckily this latter option hasn't happened at where I work now.
As far as going out? The only place I go is 5 minutes away from my house. That's close enough to make it home to my O2 in enough time to abort the attack.
