They are most certainly related August. My neuro calls them pain dreams. A very close friend of mine, a doctor of psychology has spent his entire career studying dreams, especially those relating to illness. I would be willing to send you my copy of his book if you would email me your mailing address. It may help explain things for you better than I could. Peace.
