my CH struck and remains in the area of my upper teeth. An attack starts with a slight swelling in the gum, then the most intense pain concentrates there and spreads to the eye and temple and on to the whole right side of my head.
I use extreme heat, and I do not mean a puff of warm air, to soothe these attacks. Also, even holding a mug of hot coffee against my cheek is
helpful, and holding hot coffee against the gumline is beneficial. Weird, I know, but after 18 years that is my established routine. Hot air, hot coffee. Of course if an area is inflammed then cold might feel better. A lot of people use ice.
When I had an abscessed tooth many years ago I was able to survive for several days keeping cold water in my mouth. He will need to experiment with self-treatment - maybe get some oxygen.
Let us know what happens. Good luck.
