Bob A . while your on depakote do they do blood work?

my son is 9 and ending another cycle, he is tapering off topamax,(to foggyheaded) they want to put him on depakote for his next cycle, but they said they would have to do labs while on depakote.i was so thrilled to hear that the cycle had been broken that i forgot to ask why blood work? what are they checking? i will ask his neuro. before they put him on it.i just thought that you may be able to tell me. thanks T.
