Hi Barb,
TMJ stands for temporomandibular joint.Which is your
jaw joint.I was diagnosed w/tmj some years ago.I even
was told that is what caused my headaches, and i beleived
it because tmj headaches are almost the same as clusters!
Here are some signs of tmj,
clicking or popping of your jaw while eating or talking
jaw pain
daily severe headaches
dizziness, facial pain,on one or both sides of the head
sessitivity to light and sound
pain when turning neck or head
So Barb, you can easily see why the two are often confused
for each other! And that "thing" that was mentioned
in the other reply, worn to keep you from grinding
your teeth? It's called a "splint" and it's real purpose
is to help straighten out your "bite".It's made from
acrylic. It looks like a mouth piece for playing sports.
And no it does not stop you from grinding your teeth!
I know,i wear one 24/7. One thing you should know,TMJ is hard
to spot on a regular X-ray! You need to have the proper
radiographics for diagnostic testing done to be sure,so shop
around a little is what i'm saying! By the way Barb, here are
a few more recomended sites on tmj,the first is the best
because they tell it for real. And they are the leading experts
in tmj.Hope this helps Barb
prayers for you
