I am so sorry for you and your family. That must have been (and probably still is) very difficult for all of you.

It surprises me that Hospice didn't consult with your family. They might have been misled by your brothrs significant other. That is terrible.

In most cases, the primary physician suggests that Hospice be brought in and discusses it with the family and patient.

This wasn't true in our case. Her doc was out of town and his partner was totally against it. The nurses at the hospital were the ones who suggested it to us , and we insisted. Prior to the nurses suggestion, I had tried three times to make an appointment to consult re: her condition and the doc didn't have time. We were going crazy with mixed emotions, but we couldn't get past the nurse to talk to him. In our case, Hospice was the best thing that could have happened.
