I agree with you about taking what you can get--whether it's a short cycle or the meds, he's pain-free! When Lee started taking Verapamil, he had a two week pain free period and we thought...wow, it worked. Then, they came back every night for awhile. The doc kept increasing his dose until he got to his current 640 mg. Right before the headaches stopped, he had one "10"...a final goodbye from the beast, we hope. I hope your husband will continue to be pain free--if not, don't give up. The verapamil can be increased.
Lee doesn't know what he would have done either without the imitrex this time--it was a lifesaver! Good luck to you and your husband! Joy
