Being a recovering alcoholic myself, I agree wholeheartedly with what Bob G said. Better address the alcohol problem (whether he thinks it is or not, it sure sounds like it is) first.
When I got sober, my clusters immediately went from every 8-9 months to every 2 years. I'm up to 2 years 4 months between bouts now.
Amerge works for a lot of people in keeping the attacks at bay so they can sleep. It's a triptan like Imitrex but has a longer half life. One at bedtime usually gets them through the night.
Unfortunately, Bob is also correct in saying most of this won't happen til he hits bottom. Even more unfortunate is that some people don't hit bottom til they're not breathing anymore. Talk with AA or AlAnon. They will help you take care of yourself and not facilitate the hubby's problems. It's a tough thing to do but it's the only real way to help.
